Artistic Heritage in Southern Utah
The Sears Art Museum Collection celebrates the artistic heritage of Southern Utah and the American West while embracing the diverse voices shaping the region today. Comprising approximately 3,000 works of art, the collection spans prehistoric objects through contemporary art and includes paintings, sculpture, photography, ceramics, prints, mixed media, and more. While especially renowned for its outstanding holdings of Utah art and landscapes inspired by Zion National Park and the surrounding area, the collection also features an important group of Native American artworks representing both historic and contemporary Indigenous artists.

Founded through the generosity of Robert and Peggy Sears and enriched by decades of gifts from artists, collectors, and community members, the collection serves as both a cultural treasure and a dynamic teaching resource for Utah Tech University. Through exhibitions, research, and educational programs, the Museum encourages visitors to explore the many stories, ideas, and perspectives reflected in the art.
As the collection continues to grow, the Sears Art Museum remains committed to preserving the artistic legacy of the region while expanding its representation of contemporary artists, particularly Native American voices. The result is a vibrant, evolving collection that connects the past with the present and inspires curiosity, conversation, and discovery for all who visit.
