Dear Artists,

Welcome to the 38th Annual Robert N. & Peggy Sears Invitational Art Show and Sale! Thank you for being part of this special event. This year, we received an incredible 1,268 submissions from 418 artists. From this impressive pool, 250 works—about 20%—were selected by our esteemed jury, comprised of art professionals from Utah Tech and the St. George arts community. Congratulations, and thank you for your participation!

The Invitational serves as the Sears Art Museum's sole fundraiser. Should your artwork sell, you will receive your asking price minus a 40% commission, which serves as a vital donation to the museum. Your contributions help fund exhibitions and programs, support art conservation efforts and staff salaries, and grow our distinguished permanent collection.

The Invitational’s reputation for quality continues to grow thanks to talented artists like you. We invite you to apply again next year and encourage you to invite fellow artists to do the same. The Art Call for the 2026 Invitational will open in September; look for it at www.searsart.com. Each year brings fresh talent and perspectives, ensuring a dynamic and engaging exhibition.

What’s New This Year?

Salt Lake City Pickup & Return Site: To make logistics easier, art drop-off and pickup will take place at Home Depot, 328 W 2100 S Expy, South Salt Lake, UT (Exit #305B off I-15).

Exhibition Catalog: We’re thrilled to produce a full-color catalog for the second year! The image you submitted in your Art Call submissions will be used for publication; we’ll contact you if higher-quality images are needed.

Promote Your Work! We’ll feature you and your art on our social media platforms. We encourage you to like, comment, and share posts to broaden your reach.

Gala Opening Reception: We encourage you to attend the Gala Opening Reception and invite your patrons. Engaging with collectors fosters meaningful connections and strengthens the art community. The Invitational continues to attract discerning patrons who are eager to support artists and the museum.

CONDITIONS

“SUBMISSION BACK LABEL” MUST BE PRINTED AND PROPERLY ATTACHED to the back of your artwork. Please go to your Art Call account to find and print this label.

3D ARTWORK must have the paperwork attached and should stand on a pedestal. We will provide pedestals, unless prior arrangements are made.

 

UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY WILL RETAIN 40% OF THE SALE OF EACH ARTWORK. UT will collect and pay the sales tax on the 60% owed to the artist. Be sure to price your art accordingly. Please remind your patrons that the 40% is a donation to the Sears Art Museum for the upkeep of the museum and Permanent Art Collection. This is our only fundraiser for the year!

 

ALL ENTRIES MUST BE PROPERLY MATTED, FRAMED, WIRED, AND READY TO HANG/EXHIBIT. NO EXCEPTIONS.

 

VAN PICK UP AND SHIPPING INFO. Please pack your artwork in a sturdy, reusable, labeled, & sealed box. All packing material is saved and reused. Artwork that cannot be returned in the original containers will be crated and shipped at the artist’s expense. Please do not mail art that can meet the van.

 

UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY WILL insure all artworks while they are in the museum. If you are mailing artwork make sure you understand the shipper’s conditions.

 

UTAH TECH UNIVERSITY WILL NOT assume the cost of damage during shipping or loss of work shipped or transported by the artist.

PICKUP & RETURN INFORMATION

Van pickup is available in Ogden, Salt Lake City & Orem. LOOK FOR THE LARGE PENSKE VAN.

SHIPPING & INSURANCE INFORMATION

If artwork must be shipped, pack artwork in a sturdy, substantial, reusable carton. Artwork is insured by Utah Tech University while in its possession. Utah Tech University will not assume the cost of damage or loss of work while in transit to the exhibit. Utah Tech University will insure paintings at the U.S. Post Office or UPS on return to the artist.

IMPORTANT DATES

JAN 13-17: USPS/FED EX/UPS DELIVERED ARTWORK DUE

  • Artists not able to drop off their artwork at the museum, or meet the van pickup in Northern Utah (see Pickup & Return Information) ARE REQUIRED TO pay to ship their art roundtrip. Please arrange for roundtrip shipping IN ADVANCE with the carrier of your choice.

 

JAN 15-17: SOUTHERN UTAH DROP OFF

  • The Sears Art Museum, located in the Eccles Fine Arts Center on the Utah Tech campus in St. George, will be open these days from 9 am to 5 pm to accept artwork.

JAN 18: NORTHERN UTAH VAN PICK-UP

  • Van pickup is provided for artwork in Salt Lake City, Orem, and Ogden. See “Pickup and Return” information for the locations, dates, and times. Pack your artwork in a sturdy reusable, labeled, and sealed box or crate.

 

FEB 14: GALA OPENING and RECEPTION

  • 7:00 pm to 8:30 pm. Artists are invited gratis as our guests. Your first guest is $40; additional guests are $75 per person. For tickets, please contact Jeanine Nay at (435) 652- 7903.

FEB 15: INVITATIONAL OPEN TO THE PUBLIC

  • Special Hours: Monday - Saturday 10 am to 6 pm

MAR 29: LAST DAY OF INVITATIONAL

 

APR 3-4: UNSOLD LOCAL ARTWORK PICK UP (SOUTHERN UTAH)

  • Pick up unsold artwork between 9 am and 5 pm in the Sears Art Museum, Eccles Fine Art Center at Utah Tech. Please print your claim ticket (available on Art Call) to receive your art.

APR 12: VAN RETURN OF ART (NORTHERN UTAH)

  • See Pickup & Return information for locations, dates, and times.
