POSITIONING STATEMENT

The Business of Art is held annually for artists and small businesses to come to learn and create a successful art business.

 

Dixie State University, in St. George Utah and the DSU Sears Art Museum, developed and sponsor this event as a community outreach program. Kathy Cieslewicz, DSU Director/Curator, originated the program and facilitates the event; Paul and Susan Bingham, owners of the Maynard Dixon Gallery serve as honorary founding co-chairs.

MISSION STATEMENT

The Business of Art is a seminar for visual artists and small businesses, in all disciplines, with a goal of educating and training artists and enhancing economic development in our state and region.

CORE VALUES
  • Provide sessions taught by experts for artists to learn how to make money selling their art.

  • Encourage creativity and artistic achievement.

  • Practice personal and business professionalism.

  • Practice professionalism in presenting art.

  • Share resources necessary to build self-sufficient prosperous artists who thrive and contribute to the economy.

  • Teach social media to create a network for communication to share exhibits, classes, opportunities, residencies, sources for materials, etc.

  • Provide an event for networking in an atmosphere of inspiration and innovation.

VISION

This quality experience and event will result in the following:​

  • Prosperous artists who excel in their field of business and in marketing.

  • Artists who contribute to the economy.

  • Artists who follow sound business practices.

  • Artists who maintain ethical practices.

  • An artist community that is inclusive, cohesive, and inspired.
